This cinema commercial promotes the transitional stage “Playfield” at the Hamburg theatre Deutsches Schauspielhaus, as the big stage was being renovated and performances were held on this temporary stage in the middle of the auditorium. The effect of an even more intense theatrical experience as the audience was now even closer to the actors was picked up as the main idea in this commercial for the temporary stage. Focusing on the essentials, namely accompanying the heroes of the plays through the ups and downs of their lives, the spot resorts to a reduced style of illustration to show highly emotional moments in a man’s life. The tension between the shown extremes touches the viewer thanks to the almost papercut-like minimalism of the illustrations, yet also irritates and piques curiosity about the temporary stage in the middle of Germany’s largest auditorium space. The overall simple dramaturgy and staging of the spot makes the great emotions that theatre is all about come to life in a highly engag-ing and immersive manner.
