This short documentary focuses on a less popular side of Brazil, the slums of the favelas. Rather than emphasising the danger and uncertainty within these neighbourhoods, the film features playful, innocent young boys playing with their paper kites during school holidays. In expressive images and intense close-ups, the kite appears as a symbol for life in the favelas – drifting into any direction at any time or be cut off in a blink. At the same time, the kite delightfully gives joy to children who cannot afford other toys, distracts them from their problems and brings them together.
