The design of these hotels was inspired by Mongolian culture and the meaning of the phrase “Hulun Buir Nutag”, which in Mongolian stands for “the hometown of the mind”. The design thus picks up on the idea that Mongolians are “grassland people” who live in traditional dwellings called yurts regularly seen on the grasslands. Inspired by their form and function, a total of 13 yurts were constructed around Hulun Lake over a period of 200 days. The design plan asserts the traditional symmetrical layout of a yurt and connects them in a specific orientation and rhythm.
