Realising the coincidence that Skoda’s tagline “Simply Clever” sounded similar to the Taiwanese word for “just dance”, the duo Handsome Dancer, whose contagious shoulder-shaking dance had made them a YouTube hit, were hired for an integrated campaign. Viewers of the commercial cannot help but get hooked on the addictive dance moves. After the success of a surprise video and a flash-mob event in the warm-up phase, the automobile manufacturer launched its own music video, promoting its cars in Taiwan. The advertising message is linked to a call for peaceful coexistence. The campaign turned the image of the brand, known for its practicality and rationality, into that of an emotional brand full of surprises.
