Published four times a year, the monothematic magazine “Whatever” by agency Rocket & Wink is a collection of ideas, a design test area and food for thought in one. With a playful approach to the most diverse genres and styles, the magazine compiles free design works characterised by subversive humour, a continuous deferring of meaning and openness in the use of material and form. It developed as part of the agency’s foundation in May 2011 with the aim of ushering in a new design era. In order to distinguish themselves successfully from the vast number of new design agencies, the two founders, Gerald Rocketson and Petronius Amund Wink, resorted to the idea of staying low-key: they turned into masked men bearing aliases with the idea of hiding their identities and, instead, letting their work and creative competency speak for itself. The result is an imaginative, tongue-in-cheek magazine consisting of four issues which, together with the photo book “Whatever happened in one year”, have a total of 620 pages and are presented in a heat-sensitive thermal lacquer slipcase.
