Like its 26 forerunners, the 2017 / 2018 annual report too provides an artistic take on the topic of light and thus embodies the self-image of the Zumtobel Group as more than a luminaire manufacturer. The design of the current issue follows the idea of developing graphics and content around the theme of light and shade. It is the typography, above all, that focuses on the exploration of light, shade and colour gradients. It is thus staged with manifold effects of much and little light, as well as of colour, creating experimental characters and images. The large A3-sized report makes ample use of the available space, presenting content in a playfully dynamic layout set against in part full-page monochrome backgrounds. Accompanied by 20 portrait-format A4 prints that exhibit typographic phrases, the report comes in two editions: in addition to the standard version, there is also a limited edition wrapped by bands that form the letter “Z”.
Statement by the Jury
The format of this annual report immediately catches the eye. The design knows how to use the format wisely and, thanks to a distinctive handling of colours, has emerged with an exciting appearance that perfectly integrates the numbers. As an artistic add-on, the special prints underline the high creativity and innovative power in that they make full use of the design resources – much to the pleasure of readers.
