With the exhibition “World's Best Communication Design 2022 and Highlights from NRW”, the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen is showing works from the field of communication design that come from more than 30 countries until April 30, 2023. From books to commercials and posters to apps, websites and packaging, visitors to the exhibition will experience the various facets of outstanding communication design. All of the works presented in the exhibition were awarded at the Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design 2022.
Exhibition opening on February 23
The vernissage for the exhibition took place on the evening of February 23 in front of around 150 guests. After a short introduction to the exhibition by Vito Oražem, Director of the Red Dot Design Museum, the Lord Mayor of the City of Essen, Thomas Kufen, welcomed the guests: In his welcoming speech, he emphasized the city's connection with Red Dot and the pride of the citizens of Essen in the international significance of the Red Dot Design Award.
To further get the guests in the mood for the special exhibition, Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of Red Dot, then presented a selection of entertaining video clips of outstanding winning works. Some of these videos can also be found in our Winners Section if you are interested, including clips from RTL, IKEA, Dash, AOK, SSC or the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle.
Presentation of the Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2022: MetaDesign
Among the guests at the vernissage were representatives of the Red Dot: Agency of the Year 2022, MetaDesign, which is presenting itself and its work with its own studio exhibition as part of the “World's Best Communication Design 2022 and Highlights from NRW” exhibition.
Founded 43 years ago in Berlin, MetaDesign is now considered one of the leading agencies for creative brand consulting and works for clients such as Porsche, Volkswagen and Deutsche Telekom. This year, the agency was awarded a Red Dot: Best of the Best for the brand relaunch of AOK. MetaDesign also has a branch in Düsseldorf, which was recognized in the 2022 competition year for its work for the Düsseldorf-based Henkel Group.
MYRIAD – an immersive virtual reality experience
A highlight of the exhibition is the VR Installation MYRIAD by the Berlin-based Interactive Media Foundation / Filmtank, which visitors can experience at the museum until March 26. Winner of no less than two Red Dot: Best of the Best awards, the work impressively depicts the globe-spanning migrations of various animals and enables the audience to virtually accompany the animals on their journey. The VR experience aims to sensitize young people to the topic of animal migration in particular and to the relationship between humans and nature in general. Emotions are the key
At the Red Dot Design Museum, visitors will have the opportunity to travel part of the way with the animals themselves using VR glasses on all opening days at 12 p.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. until March 26, 2023. School classes and other groups: Dates by appointment.
Award-winning design made in NRW
One focus of the exhibition is on the winners from North Rhine-Westphalia. With important agency locations such as Cologne and Düsseldorf, NRW was able to maintain its position as a starting point for top creative achievements in the 2022 competition year: last year, almost ten percent of all globally awarded works and 37 percent of all German winning works came from NRW, including ten Red Dot: Best of the Best winners. REWE Markt GmbH, headquartered in Cologne, also won a Red Dot: Grand Prix in NRW with the design of the REWE Green Farming Supermarkt in Wiesbaden. The media company RTL, also based in Cologne, was awarded the Red Dot: Best Media Brand for its new brand presence.
The winners from NRW include other large companies such as CFP brands (including Chupa Chups), Gira, Henkel, Penny, thyssenkrupp Steel, TK Elevator, Valensina, Vorwerk and Yello, as well as smaller and larger agencies such as beierdesign from Bielefeld, Beckdesign from Bochum, Das gute Ding from Düsseldorf, oppa franz from Duisburg, heureka from Essen, denkwerk from Cologne, Kopfkunst from Münster, BBDO Düsseldorf and MetaDesign Düsseldorf. A total of around 70 works from NRW can be seen in the exhibition.
