The basic concept of a ‘tea house’ brings to mind several classic images. #3MM#RED#FIBER blends both classic tradition and modern aesthetics into a ‘redefined’ tea house by using two new materials. The tea house covers an area of 4.5 tatami mats. The semi-open ‘floating’ space is formed with a simple tensegrity structure using 2 curved steel bars and 4 cables. Red carbon fibres with a 3mm diameters are fixed equidistantly, forming a surface that is corrosion resistant, high-tensile and light. This also changes the ‘expression’ of the surface from different angles of sight. As time passes, light and shadow change the mood of the tea house. The transparent surface allows the tea house itself to blend well into environment, leading people to experience the moment in the space. Red Dot Award: Design Concept | Concept | Habitat
