An Eye-Opening Identity

MuZIEum focuses on the personal experience of seeing and not seeing. The ability to have personal encounters with the blind and visually impaired makes MuZieum one of the most realistic museum experiences in the Netherlands. Based on the new positioning “Opens your eyes”, a new visual identity was needed to match all relevant target groups and meet all accessibility requirements. Colour contrast, typography, and graphic elements were all carefully considered so that information would be easily perceived and understood by both visually impaired and sighted individuals, making the museum inclusive and accessible to all. During research, the team discovered a range of valuable tools designed specifically to assist individuals with visual impairments. The colour switch tool, for example, allows colour schemes to be modified to meet visual needs. This prompted the inclusion of a similar feature, which lets museum visitors customise the colour palette to their preferences and to improve readability. In this way, individuals with visual impairments can personalise their experience by using these tools, ensuring that the museum caters to a wide range of needs and preferences.
