Apartment D, 'Art of Life of Winter Olympics' project of Beijing International Design Week

Apartment D’s design is fundamentally based on Chinese aesthetics, but integrates original aesthetic elements from neighbouring countries while incorporating new ideas. Cement walls, rattan, wood and wabi-sabi elements gain depth over time to create natural, authentic and elegant surfaces. Each space makes clever use of natural elements while demonstrating respect for history through soft and stylish details. To create a primitive aesthetic that commands the rhythm of the space at all times, neutral tones, textures and natural wood are paired with contrasting soft and hard materials, giving the space a wabi-sabi attribute. A rough, silent, understated and mysterious aesthetic demonstrates an organic integrity immersed in history. Courtyard planning and design are added for privacy. Indoor and outdoor flower beds extend the viewing distance from the door while connecting the indoor and outdoor areas, creating a distinct atmosphere. In the open dining area, comfortable and spacious sofas are combined with cabinets and a bar counter. The master bedroom has a leisure area in the entrance porch, and the south- facing bed has a view of the outdoor landscape. The original building’s oblique roof design is retained, and a large bird’s nest chandelier emphasises the comfortable and relaxing wabi-sabi holiday aesthetics
