Comfortably Mobile

It is an exciting time for both parents and children when babies learn to sit independently and begin to move from warm, enclosed prams to nimbler, open buggies, heralding as it does an increase in mobility. Accordingly, the new mode of transport has to meet certain specific requirements. In this regard, Butterfly 2 by Dutch manufacturer Bugaboo sets the bar high. Even at first sight, it is apparent that the pushchair is light yet sturdy and safe owing to its black aluminium chassis that adopts dynamic, diagonal lines and uses strong plastic joints. An ergonomic seat made from a durable, high-performance fabric is fitted into the frame. Just like its predecessor, the stroller folds down into an ultra-compact, portable package in a single second and, among other things, meets overhead luggage requirements for air travel. In this format, it can also be stowed anywhere without taking up much space. The ergonomic seat has been redesigned to ensure babies and toddlers are held in the best possible position at any stage in their development. Should the child want to sleep, it can swiftly be reclined flat, then just as quickly be brought back into a fully upright position for the next voyage of discovery. The built-in footrest is easy to adjust with one hand and a removable sun canopy with a window offers additional protection. Larger wheels with full suspension guarantee outstanding manoeuvrability, grip and resistance (according to test results, they can cover more than 4,000 km without showing much wear and tear). The underseat storage basket can hold 8 kg, while essentials can be safely stowed in a pocket behind the backrest. The Butterfly 2 is the most sustainable pushchair in the Bugaboo range to date. By using 60 per cent recycled aluminium and bio-based plastics, carbon emissions have been reduced by 37 per cent on the previous model. The new colour palette – Heritage Black, Desert Taupe, Deep Indigo and Forest Green – was also chosen with a view to durability. The jury was very taken with this product: “Right down to the last detail, the Bugaboo Butterfly 2 adheres to an exacting, coherent design concept. It skilfully combines mobility and comfort as is apparent from the remarkable folding mechanism, among other features.”
