Cangjie's Poetry

Cangjie’s Poetry as a prototype for the future of human- machine language. Named after an historian who invented Chinese characters based on the characteristics of everything on Earth, Cangjie is a neural network that is trained to learn the constructions and principles of over 9000 Chinese characters. In the art installation, Cangjie captures its surroundings with a camera and transforms real-world streaming into a cluster of ever-changing new symbols in real- time. These novel symbols are composed of Chinese strokes entwined with camera-captured imagery, and algorithmically rendered as an abstract pixelated landscape. The landscape dynamically moves, evolves and writes poetry based on the image data. Meanwhile, real-time captured image fragments of the surroundings are interpreted into descriptive sentences that appear as flowing poetry written in ink.
