Fascinating Light Reflections

Exploring the future of lighting to find intelligent solutions that focus on people and their everyday needs, environments and situations is what drives Italian luminaire manufacturer iGuzzini when developing new luminaires. An impressive example of the results of this approach is Crystal, a linear recessed ceiling luminaire that “merges design, innovation and efficiency in an exemplary manner”, the jury said. At its heart is the Opti Diamond optic, which was born out of a desire to avoid the use of metal in optics in order to be more sustainable. It is based on optimising a retro-reflective principle that combines reflection and refraction for exceptional brilliance at low luminance. One advantage of this innovation is the virtual enlargement of the light-emitting surface. The frame of the luminaire in turn captures the light emitted by the reflector and distributes it on the ceiling. In the room, the effect of the luminaire is primarily perceptible in the form of balanced illumination and a fascinating play of light reflections. Crystal emphasises the three-dimensional nature of spaces through light, ensuring a high level of visual comfort. The optic is available with four different light distribution solutions – including a general lighting and a wall washer – to optimise the lighting according to requirements. Thanks to variable control of the light flow, Crystal achieves high light efficiency values of up to 155 lm/W. The luminaire is available in a white and a black version, both characterised by a neutral elegance, while the rounded corners of the frame provide soft, flowing lines. “Crystal presents a successful creation of a recessed ceiling luminaire that offers an astonishingly high level of visual comfort – both in terms of the type of light it emits, which is capable of changing the atmosphere of a room with its light reflections, and in terms of the luminaire design itself, where the frame takes on reflector functions. This makes Crystal a truly aesthetic ceiling element,” concluded the jury.
