The Rad+ app from Deutsche Bahn helps users to combine environmentally friendly rail travel and cycling by rewarding them for using a bicycle. The user’s account is credited with every kilometre they cycle. The pay function in the app then allows the user to exchange this credit for products and discounts from participating partners. In addition, once a certain number of kilometres have been accrued by all the users within a participating region, a variety of infrastructural measures or events are initiated which benefit every local resident. Thus, the digital collecting of kilometres has a direct and tangible impact on the user’s personal environment.
