The Chinese city of Jingdezhen has a tradition of porcelain manufacturing that spans millennia. The black and white illustrations create a drawn monument to this artisan craft. With lots of lovingly explored details, the finely drawn scenarios add vibrancy to the city’s life and work as well as to its tradition of artisan craft. These are contrasted by the centrally placed and consciously simply designed presentations of a dish, a globe and a pot. They act like a heading and give thematic context to the respective illustration.
