Wherever the LG Transparent OLED TV-77T4 is shown, a phenomenon occurs that has not been associated with televisions for a long time: It once again behaves like an object that gathers people around it – almost like a modern manifestation of a campfire. What is remarkable is that this fascination emanates from a surface that is barely visible at first glance, as the TV has a transparent OLED screen framed by a filigree profile system. In transparent mode, when images are projected onto the TV, the illusion is created that content is floating in the air and blends into the surroundings – an almost surreal viewing experience. A wireless AV solution minimises the visible technology; only a power cable remains discreetly visible in the background. Users can switch between transparent and opaque mode at the touch of a button. In classic mode, films can be watched as usual on a black screen thanks to motorised fabric panels. The designers have also broken new ground conceptually with this television, creating it as a hybrid product between an electronic device and a piece of furniture. The transparent surface is embedded in an aluminium structure consisting of narrow lines and surfaces that form a shelf. The result is a modular system that can be flexibly integrated into the interior – both functionally and aesthetically. As the designers put it: “Transparency does not mean absence – it creates a new relationship between space, image and architecture.” The Red Dot Jury was impressed: “The LG Transparent OLED TV-77T4 impressively demonstrates how far the technology of transparent displays has come. The combination of technical perfection and an elegant, almost sculptural design gives the set an outstanding design quality.” And they summarised: “What is particularly impressive is the successful integration of the display into the living space. The device not only serves as a television, but also fulfils decorative functions. It can be integrated into the interior like a shelf or room divider – with exceptional versatility.”
