The name of the beer brand Lovibond 55 refers to Joseph Williams Lovibond, a British brewer and the inventor of the tintometer. Since the number “55” on this measuring instrument indicates the achieved colouring of the beer, the packaging design is a graphical representation of the entire process from wheat harvesting to beer brewing, visualised in this number. The neck of the bottle is designed with sixteen curved surfaces, reminiscent of Salisbury Cathedral, where Lovibond was inspired to invent the colourmeter in 1880. Moreover, the neck of the bottle is also narrowed down to echo the “Take your time” product slogan.
