Masterpiece Mystery

Watches of the Maurice Lacroix brand attract followers with their quality. It is in particular the Masterpiece Collection of mechanical watches, established in 1990, that has repeatedly surprised the market with new design details. In character, the Masterpiece Mystery seamlessly follows in the footsteps of this collection. Alongside easily recognisable trademark features such as the striking skeletonisation, it is also impressive for its mysterious seconds indicator. Driven by a durable and reliable movement with a self-winding mechanism, this second hand marks out a linear reading in alternating horizontal and vertical cycles. The direction appears to change every 15 seconds. Users gain the impression of movement. This is the result of an optical illusion caused by the blued or rhodium covered hand, which appears to rotate weightlessly on its own axis. The blued or rhodium covered hand also indicates the time at two o’clock, while the rest of the dial allows users to see through to the movement bridges thanks to its skeletonisation. The geometric style that gives the wristwatch comes to the fore in the two available series that are limited to 125 pieces each. They are coated in either rhodium of ruthenium. The appearance of the watch is enhanced by another design detail: the wearer can permanently see the self-winding mechanical mechanism at work through the sapphire-crystal back of the stainless steel case.

The soft proportions of the Masterpiece Mystery have an emotional appeal for wearers. A classic design vocabulary is combined with intelligent and surprising new solutions inside the wristwatch. The mechanism as well as the perception-perplexing linear seconds indicator demand to be looked at again and again. Every detail has been perfectly executed.
