Memory
In Taiwan, the number of elderly people living alone is growing, and family structures are increasingly disintegrating. At a calm rate of narration, supported by images radiating melancholy and by soft music, the film “Memory” deals with this issue. The story starts with a lonely young man in the city who receives a call from an old lady. The old lady, diagnosed with dementia, mistakes the young man for her son. From then on, she keeps calling him every day. The film uses media from two different eras – a modern smartphone and an ancient telephone – to manifest the connection between the young man and the old lady.
