The porosity allows water to be absorbed or released, and the varying thicknesses of the pattern enhance the visibility of this mesmerising interplay between water and ceramic. Because water takes longer to pass through the thicker parts, the pattern is constantly changing until the water has distributed into all of the pores in the ceramic.
