Prison Education
Taichung Prison has established a special rehabilitation programme in which inmates produce lacquerware. This series of illustrations takes the unusual workshop as a starting point to depict numerous scenes of life in prison. Stylistically, the work is limited to simply drawn figures which remain anonymous in a discreet manner. At the same time, soft colours and the round shapes of the characters unfold a childlike charm. In this way, the illustrations express a compassionate attitude and appeal to the public to look at the prisoners without prejudice.
