Based on the concept of biomimicry, the SHELLMET helmet was developed in a small Japanese fishing village known for its scallop industry. Initially intended for use by local fishermen, the nature-inspired safety helmet is made from crushed discarded scallop shells. The shell-like ribbed structure increases the helmet’s impact resistance while reducing material use. The helmet comes in a choice of five different pastel colours for a harmonious overall aesthetic.
