Light has been used for signalling throughout history – from the lighthouses of antiquity to the traffic lights of today. The “SLOTLIGHT LynX activated” gives this millennia-old form of communication an intelligent, contemporary twist – as a linear, architecturally integrated lighting system that not only provides light, but also conveys information, enables orientation and helps to manage complex processes. At the heart of the system is an intelligent, networked lighting infrastructure (LynX), which is based on the existing SLOTLIGHT technology and goes far beyond traditional lighting. With targeted colour signals and dynamically animated light lines, “SLOTLIGHT LynX activated” signals emergencies, for example, facilitates navigation in complex buildings or enables people and objects to be precisely located in real time. The system is controlled wirelessly via a networked software architecture. This allows it to be flexibly integrated into a wide variety of environments and areas of application – from hospitals, office buildings and museums to industrial facilities. A key objective was to create a lighting system that blends seamlessly into architectural environments. The original linear system in the LynX version therefore remains virtually unchanged, can be expanded modularly and can even be integrated retroactively – without interfering with the building structure. The decision to solve visual cues purely by means of light guidance thus favours a design that provides orientation without being obtrusive. The jury was impressed: “The ‘SLOTLIGHT LynX activated’ overcomes the boundary between light source and information interface in a particularly elegant way. The system is functionally well thought-out, visually restrained and can be integrated into a wide variety of architectural contexts. Above all, however, it is immediately and intuitively understandable. A lighting system that not only provides orientation – it also sets standards for the integration of smart technologies in linear lighting.” In this way, “SLOTLIGHT LynX activated” creates light lines that not only open up spaces, but also push boundaries – both in terms of design and function.
