Style In Motion is inspired by the symbolic essence of the Chinese martial art of tai chi as well as the four new competition events added to the 2024 Paris Olympics: breakdancing, skateboarding, surfing, and climbing — all of which relate to the art of serenity, moderation, and restraint in athletics.
During the development of the collection, 3D dynamic scanners were used to capture the joint movements of tai chi practitioners. A unique approach was adopted to formulate and transform these documented tai chi motions into geometric origami structures, resulting in a hybrid of Eastern garment patterns and Western three-dimensional cutting techniques. The pattern analysis also takes into account the motion of each sport, creating one-of-a-kind garment silhouettes that match the dynamics of the manoeuvre.
Utilising digital knitting technology and traditional hand-pressed thermal folding methods, the sportswear collection is designed to perfectly fit the athletes' body shapes and enhance their performance. This exemplifies the tai chi philosophy of yin-yang harmony, as well as the balance of hard and soft, traditional and modern, and handmade and machine-made, ultimately reflecting the aesthetic beauty in fusing Eastern and Western elements.
