Tabu* is a premenstrual product that helps young women prepare for their first period. For many individuals in both developed and developing economies, the first period can be a frightening and confusing experience, especially if they lack adequate menstrual education. The right to manage menstruation without shame or stigma should be fundamental, and Tabu* aims to de-stigmatise, educate, and provide practical support to girls experiencing their first period, as well as those in parts of the world who lack access to menstrual products and menstrual education. The carry case was created with Generation Alpha in mind. The ability to personalise the case with the included stickers appeals to Gen Alpha’s desire for individuality and self-expression. The case has enough volume to carry a day’s supply of pads or tampons. Graphic, bold shapes and hyper-bright colours reference gaming and digital subcultures on the packaging. The unboxing experience is reminiscent of high-end electronic goods, creating a curated service journey that is all supported by the Tabu* app. Carefully chosen materials, such as fully recyclable card and compostable inks, reduce the environmental impact of the packaging. Tabu* would be provided at no cost to the user by charities, health authorities, and local governments. A QR code on the packaging directs users to the Tabu* app, which offers dependable, inclusive resources to reassure, educate, and inform. The app also facilitates open conversations about periods by creating a safe space for conversation and removing the loneliness, isolation, and embarrassment that can occur during this time. This digital environment offers educational material that can be used by individuals or in the classroom to increase knowledge and awareness about menstruation across genders and ages.
