The Polite Type

The company TietoEVRY developed “The Polite Type” with the aim of entering the public discussion about taking a stand against toxic online culture and hate speech. The objective was to show that even large companies can make a difference by developing products in which social responsibility is firmly embedded. By incorporating a word library and a replacement function into a regular font file, the aim was to encode Nordic values of inclusion and equality in a product that effectively communicates them to a global audience. The intention was also to demonstrate that a different approach is possible.
