#VictoryPages is a versatile social media documentary commemorating the 75th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany. In it, young people tell a story of victory using the tools and language of digital media as they are typical across the five social networks of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, VK and YouTube. Employing visual art, interactive formats, emotive sound design, 3D animations, virtual and augmented realities as well as dynamic real-time storytelling, the project is a contemporary tribute to WW2 veterans and heroes who resisted the threat of Nazism and protected the future from it. Through social media, the educational project builds engaging narratives following an innovative and unusual approach. The legacy of victims and ancestors is thus kept alive and the historical magnitude of 9 May 1945 assessed through personal impressions of contemporaries as well as through the fresh perspective of young artists, designers and animators using digital art and creativity. #VictoryPages is thus both a remembrance project and an anti-war message.Statement by the juryThe social media history project #VictoryPages shows in an outstanding way what digital technologies can do today and how they can be used to unfold their full expressive power. The visual language and the different creative approaches for the individual channels were chosen in such a way that they coherently convey the theme to enable a gripping narrative of the historical events – and do so just as excellently on desktops as on smartphones or tablets.
