The frame’s impressive stability – not immediately apparent from its airy appearance – results from smartly balanced material proportions and robust joints. The spirit of functionalism is evident not only in the respectful use of materials but also in the smooth, efficient production process, echoing the movement’s ethos of design for all. Today’s retail behaviour also plays a key role in the concept: as flat-pack furniture, the X frame simplifies online order logistics. It fits into a compact box, making it well-suited to increasingly mobile lifestyles. “X is a rare example of how powerful low-tech can be. It is engineered for function yet is so full of character that it becomes iconic. The precise workmanship, premium materials and thoughtful construction are truly impressive,” the jury concluded.
