The YZF-R1 is a Supersport motorcycle which tends in design, technology and road handling towards MotoGP machines. Engine and bodywork have been newly developed and together with an advanced steering technology with six-axis position sensor assure very good steering properties. In order to keep the weight of the machine down, new technologies and light materials such as titanium, magnesium and aluminium have been used wherever possible. The front design is recreated from racing machines and facilitates a light, slim-lined and compact construction with high aerodynamic qualities.
