“$30 to Antarctica” follows the story of Ka Foon Chau, who grew up an impoverished child and retired a renowned doctor. Raised in Hong Kong of the nineteen-sixties, she faced the bias of the elder and their attempts to discourage her interest in an academic career. A teacher helped her lead a life and build a career which moved beyond the restrictive boundaries set by her parents’ generation. She is now ready to see Antarctica, a childhood dream. This documentary focuses on interviews with Chau and some of her companions. Events from the past are visualised through old photographs and colour animations.
