Little Big e-Motion

Hospitals can be scary and fearful places, especially for children. The Little Big e-Motion is a small electric vehicle specially designed for paediatric patients to relieve their stress and anxiety before clinical treatment. The vehicle, which is used at SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital to get small patients from the hospital bed to the treatment room, uses AI as well as Emotion Adaptive Vehicle Control (EAVC) technology. For example, the heart rate can be measured and analysed via a sensor and breathing via a respiratory training belt, while a facial recognition system has also been integrated to detect facial expressions and assess any emotion. In addition, emotion-based adaptive lighting technology, audio with soothing phrases that encourage treatment, and a scent dispenser serve to provide calming sensory stimuli to help the child cope with the emotionally stressful situation. In this way, this small electric vehicle transforms children’s experiences in the hospital into happier moments. The interaction of the car and its tools with the child is very impressive both technically and aesthetically. Outstanding and convincing in its function as a fear reliever, the campaign at the same time celebrates the progress of automotive technology for humans.
