Discovering the Unknown

Materials are rarely seen in their original form because of how they have been transformed. Their unexpected transformation provides different and new ways for us to understand our world. Discovering the Unknown is a Jacquard woven wall panel for interior spaces that is produced with horsehair. It is also an attempt to discover unknown possibilities that lie within the existing materials in our environment. In creating the piece, there was an evolution in the search for ideas, which led to a deeper understanding of the intrinsic value of the horsehair. Each strand, which has undergone immense transformation by various processes like twisting, knotting and bending, contributes to the visual integrity of the whole object. Horsehair has been used in its original form not just to create an element of surprise for viewers, but on a deeper level, to allow them to appreciate the existence of the material in its original form. The material itself can play a significant role in the discovery of form. Discovering the Unknown uses materials as a source for more ideas and beliefs that artistic possibilities exist within the material itself.
