Light is the foundation of life. It controls our biorhythm, influences our mood and health, and improves concentration. Achieving a result that is as close as possible to sunlight – for an authentic natural experience – was central to the development of Light Shed Linen. The designers chose to take a biophilic design approach, aiming to harmonise the product’s materials, shapes and functions with the human need for light and the desire to feel a connection with nature. Sustainable linen is the material from which this modular ceiling light is made. It is derived from flax, a resilient and fast-growing plant that only needs rainwater to thrive and requires neither pesticides nor fertilisers. Flax also demonstrates extremely robust processing properties and is light in weight. Last but not least, the understated and natural linen surface of Light Shed Linen adds unique tactility to the product. Another sustainable and very practical feature, which also reflects the human-centric design principle, is the automatic adjustment of light colour and brightness to time of day, which promotes well-being and improves energy-efficiency. Light Shed Linen uses LED technology and incorporates various intelligent systems based on sensors to modulate the quantity and quality of the light according to situation, thus achieving significant energy savings. The product also harmoniously combines a circle and a square as geometric elements, which, for lighting planners and interior designers, opens up many possibilities – from single suspended fixtures to complex configurations. “Light Shed Linen is a variable light that can also be used as a large-format ceiling fixture – which is not only functional but also interesting from an interior design perspective. Moreover, the natural, recyclable material lends the high-tech luminaire a human, almost poetic touch,” commented the jurors, who also appreciated the sleek silhouette of the lampshade. With its wide light angle that gently illuminates the room, Light Shed Linen is an interior feature with natural charm that combines high-tech with accessible aesthetics.
