Red Dot Award: Product Design

Products to relax

Recovery in its most beautiful way: products for relaxation

The stressful everyday life allows only a few moments to really come to rest. For this, a wellness centre is not always necessary – there are also more and more possibilities to relax at home. In the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2019, design objects which promise feel-good moments and invite to relax were put to the test amongst others. The excellent products help to relax in different ways and they support the user in taking time for himself or herself. With their innovative design solutions, they create blithe moments and provide for physical as well as mental relaxation.

Breathing deeply with an excellent relaxation aid

A fundamental element for relaxation is a calm breath. The use of the breathing trainer “stress releaZer” from Beurer facilitates access to this. For this purpose, the user has to lay the device from design studio “paul martin” on the diaphragm. For the best possible customisation, three cycles with different lengths, which can be complemented by a connectible light ring, pulsing in a chosen rhythm and working as a mood light, can be selected. Furthermore, there is the option to support the relaxation by heating the bottom of the product. “Thanks to well-conceived functionality, the stress releaZer reduces states of exhaustion in a natural way and helps to achieve a relaxed breathing rhythm,” reasons the jury their decision to award the product a Red Dot.

Massager and piece of furniture in one

To relieve hurting and tired legs, a foot massage is a good option. Therefore, the massage tool “Restool” from Hutech can help. The foot massager, designed by Cheol Hong Seo, convinces with its versatility. In order to use it, one needs to take away the covering so that the feet can be placed in the fabric covered product. Through four intuitively graspable buttons with LED lighting, the user can adjust the style of the massage and the heat-level according to his personal needs. When “Restool” is not used for massage, it fits well in the living area due to its elaborated design with wood, leather and textile and can be used as a stool, which is furthermore heatable. For this impressive combination of a home accessory with a massager, the Red Dot Jury awarded a Red Dot.

Wellness through warmth

Common sign for stress and tensions is a cramped neck. In this case, the Red Dot awarded hot-water bag “U Shape Hot Water Bag” from Shenzen Zhizhi Incubation grants relief. The silicone bottle has to be filled with water and heated up within three minutes in the microwave. Thanks to the design from Huide Kuo, the hot-water bag can comfortably lay around the neck and provide the shoulders with soothing warmth. Through the U-shaped design and the additional knitted fabric coating, the product adjusts to the skin without slipping off. Furthermore, it is fixed with a knitted small ribbon.

Versatile massage tool

A relaxing massage can also help to release tension. The massager “Scalp 2” from Shenzen Breo Technology has four different attachments, which offer diverse massage techniques. These can support the blood circulation, have an invigorating effect, ease itches and improve the general well-being. Thanks to waterproof material, the use in the bathtub, in the shower or in combination with massage oil and other care products is possible. The product, designed conveniently from Fei Du and Wenxu Gan, can easily be opened for cleansing. For the organic shaping and the sophisticated, relaxation supporting function, the jury awarded an Honourable Mention.
