Red Dot’s legendary Designers’ Night in Taiwan – in the awarded OMNI nightclub in Taipei

Every year, the Designers’ Night in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany is a big picture of the design community: Red Dot winners, famous designers, renowned manufacturers, media representatives and jury members join the party and exchange views on the newest industry dynamics and design trend. On 21 November 2017, the Designers’ Night came to Taiwan once again after four years. For the first time, this event was held in a nightclub in Taipei – in the “OMNI Nightclub”, which was awarded in the interior design category with the Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2017. Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the Red Dot Award, had also arrived in Taipei all the way from Germany for this special night.

The origins of the Red Dot Design Award date back to 1955. Its distinction, the Red Dot, is established internationally as one of the most sought-after quality marks for good design. With more than 18,000 entries from over 50 countries in 2017, the Red Dot Award is one of the largest international design competitions in the world. Taiwan is constantly among the top five winner countries. Prof. Dr. Peter Zec once explained: “Taiwan is playing a decisive role in the world of design. These international top-achievements and many innovations from Taiwan are going to fascinate every fan of awarded technology and lifestyle solutions.” The Designers’ Night on 21 November 2017 was held especially for Taiwan and Prof. Dr. Peter Zec joined the event in order to exchange views and experience with local designers and manufacturers. The expectation of Red Dot is to continuously demonstrate the whole range of Taiwanese proficiency outside the island.

The legendary party was held in a nightclub which was awarded with the Red Dot: Best of the Best in 2017 – the “OMNI Nightclub” by The Loop Inc, which is a famous nightlife experience corporation in Taiwan. The Red Dot Jury said: “The concept of the Omni Nightclub Taipei uses lighting scenarios in a fascinating manner to create an ever-changing spatial ambiance in an interplay with the architecture. The changing geometric shapes visualise energetic power and activity. It establishes a theatrical space of entertainment with an atmosphere that automatically captivates the attention of the visitors. The stage-like flair of this club encourages visitors to share experiences of joy and enthusiasm with each other.”

The Designers’ Night started with the opening performance “Inner Light“ by the world-famous dancing group “LUXY BOYZ”. The innovative LED-system made costumes and the diversity of modern music combination created a harmonious yet fabulous lighting show. Through the multi-faceted lighting scenario in the sophisticated architecture, the show delivered a mystical atmosphere in OMNI nightclub. The Designers’ Night in Taipei was not just a party, but rather a night life entertainment experience. The co-designer of OMNI Nightclub, Hsiang Hao Chang stated: “It’s not only a design, it’s not only a space. It’s a city issue. If we do more effort to Taiwan, to Taipei, we will make our city more beautiful.” Until late night, the guests spent an inspiring time while enjoying the spectacular venue, making new contacts and talking about the latest design news. Prof. Dr. Peter Zec exchanged views on the newest industry dynamics and design trends with guests in KOR Taipei, a bar next to OMNI which also belongs to the LOOP Inc.
