FUJIFILM — Value from Innovation

Technology and innovation are the key building blocks of the FUJIFILM Corporation, and its three business areas – healthcare, materials and imaging – symbiotically coalesce. This also becomes apparent when you look at SYNAPSE 3D, which produces ultra-precise images of tomographic examinations and analyses them. The combination of high tech and usability is the outcome of joint product and communication design.

FUJIFILM Corporation interviewed by Red Dot

Red Dot: Which design parameters for user interfaces are paramount in the medical field?
FUJIFILM Corporation: There are many, but the ones that are key are the easily readable representation of patient information in a format that prevents mix-ups, an adequate image size for diagnoses, clear identification of normal and abnormal areas and the creation of efficient work processes.

How closely do product and graphic designers in your company work together?
There is an ongoing dialogue over the course of a project. Our teams not only include product and graphic designers but also UI and customer experience designers. Beyond that, I also connect with designers from our other business areas – from cameras and printers to cosmetics – as they are a constant source of inspiration for me.

What influence does graphic design have on the functionality of SYNAPSE 3D?
It has a considerable influence. Given that a lot of information has to be put on display, it is important to ensure that the wealth of information doesn’t result in a confusing layout or that important details are missed.
