Jury session for Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 successful

In the Red Dot Award anniversary year, an international panel of experts arrived at the Ruhr region to award the best products of 2015. During an intensive jury session all entries were examined on site.

In 2015, the Red Dot Award received the highest number of entries in its history. Products were registered in 31 categories: from consumer electronics, jewellery or toys to kitchen furniture, and industrial engineering. It is every participant’s aim to receive one of the coveted awards "Red Dot: Best of the Best", "Red Dot" or "Honourable Mention".

In order to cope with the increasing numbers of submissions, a top-class committee is appointed annually. On the occasion of the Red Dot Award’s 60th anniversary outstanding designers, distinguished design professors and specialised journalists from 25 countries were recruited. The independent jury assesses the submitted products by taking certain criteria into account such as functionality, degree of innovation, formal quality and ecological compatibility. Professor Dr Peter Zec, founder and president of the Red Dot Award, names four qualities a product has to posses to meet the requirements for good design: the quality of function, seduction, use, and responsibility.

For each expert, the jury meeting is a special highlight, because the products of each category are submitted physically. For this purpose, among others, vehicles of the largest automobile manufactures are delivered specifically for the Red Dot jury. This is not only a logistical challenge, but also a grand finale of three exciting days.
