Qoobi ONE nominated for top accolade – the Red Dot: Luminary 2019
Qoobi ONEfrom the entertainment category by Qoobi B.V. from the Netherlands has been nominated for the highest achievement at the Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2019 – the Red Dot: Luminary. The top accolade serves as an inspiration to aspire towards. The wireless tube pre amplifier converts digital music into a warm analogue signal using vacuum tubes. It allows people to play digital music files from any source via Bluetooth and allows anyone to enjoy vinyl-quality sound with their speakers of choice. Red Dot talked with the designer Matvey Evstigneev.
What was your goal when you designed your award-winning design concept?
The objective was to create something completely atypical for this category. Most existing tube audio amplifiers have an unattractive and utilitarian design, with elements being arranged in a completely random way. I wanted a design that would be conceptual, attractive and able to fit in any modern interior.
What inspires you?
Inspiration is a strong emotion given shape. Its true form is an analogue substance – not digital, not explained by the principles of linear logic and always arriving at the most unexpected moment. Of course, communicating with people, listening to music and travelling helps.
What do you see as being the biggest challenges in your industry at present?
This world is now ruled by marketers. With the irresistible desire to make a lot of money, you will never be able to create a unique product. Extraordinary and innovative solutions always require additional costs and time. These days, there are even fewer companies who are willing to take a risk that is contrary to the laws of the market. This contributes to the endless stream of faceless and cliched products, which is turning modern design from an art form into typical mainstream things.
What is the role of design in audio projects like Qoobi?
Today the design is everything. The role of the design in consumer electronics is dominant. Every manufacturer strives to make its products recognisable and that is why he creates a product design line. And we at Qoobi believe that we've created this type of product – unique and very recognisable.
Do you look forward to coming to the awarding ceremony in Singapore? What is your expectation of the event?
The ceremony is a great opportunity to dive in the heart of the community of creative people from all over the world. It will be a great experience and a big chance to see and meet new people. And to visit fantastic Singapore, of course!

The Red Dot Award: Design Concept 2019 winners will be announced on the 25 September. Winning designers will be flying in from all over the world to receive their award on stage at the awarding ceremony. The recipient of this year’s highest achievement in the award – the Red Dot: Luminary will also be revealed on stage, ushering a high note in honouring 2019’s best.
