Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 - Lu, Bucher and Stotz are new Red Dot jurors

The registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015 is over and the jury out of 38 internationally renowned experts is preparing for the jury session. True to the motto “In search of good design and innovations”, the committee will come together in Essen, Germany, to award the best products of the world. Every year, the Red Dot jury is regrouped and its members are in charge of specific product categories due to their specialised knowledge. New members of the expert group are among others Oliver Stotz, Lam Leslie Lu and Rüdiger Bucher.

Oliver Stotz is industrial designer and founder of his own studio “stotz-design.com“ in Wuppertal, Germany. He has more than 20 years of experience in the fields of industrial and corporate design. His design achievements are characterised by his integral operation methods on design projects and by the consequent implementation of developed concepts from trade fair appearance to POS up to the product. Thus, established brands came into being in his studio, such as proseat in the automotive sector or blomus in the field of glass/porcelain/ceramic. Since then, he and his eight member team both nationally and internationally advise companies of various branches regarding the implementation and the realisation of new design concepts. Oliver Stotz is lecturer in the design department at the University Wuppertal. His design achievements have been honoured with renowned awards and shown in numerous exhibitions.

Lam Leslie Lu serves as the Principal of the Hong Kong Design Institute and is Academic Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. Prior to the present role, he served as the Head of the Department of Architecture, at the University of Hong Kong. Professionally, Lam Leslie Lu practiced with Cesar Pelli and Associates, Hardy Holzman Pfeiffer Associates, and Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. During his Monbusho scholarship research studies in Japan, he worked with Shinohara Kazuo on the design of the Centennial Hall in the Tokyo Institute of Technology. The Centennial Hall, the Museum of Modern Arts in New York City and the 333 Wacker Drive Building in Chicago are widely acknowledged by the public and the media as representative architecture of the millennium. Lu was visiting professor at the Yale University and at the Delft University of Technology, and was assistant lecturer for the Eero Saarinen Chair at Yale University. He also lectured and served as design critic in major international universities including Columbia University, Cambridge University, Delft University of Technology, Princeton University, Yale University, Shenzhen University, Tongji University, Tsinghua University and the Chinese University Hong Kong.

Rüdiger Bucher graduated in political science at the Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany and subsequently completed the postgraduate study course “Interdisciplinary studies on France” in Freiburg, Germany. Already during his A levels and studies, he has been writing for various daily newspapers and magazines. In 1995, he joined the publishing house “Verlagsgruppe Ebner Ulm” where he was in charge of the magazine „Scriptum. Die Zeitschrift für Schreibkultur“ (Scriptum. The magazine for writing culture“, for five years. In 1999 he switched from fountain pens to watches and became chief editor of “Chronos”, the leading German-language special interest magazine for wrist watches. During Bucher’s tenure since 2005, Chronos has positioned itself internationally with subsidiary companies and licensed editions in China, Korea, Japan, and Poland. At the same time, Bucher built up a successful corporate publishing section for Chronos. Since 2014, he is editorial director of the business area “Watches” at the Ebner publishing house and is not only in charge of Chronos, but also of the sister magazines “Uhren-Magazin” (Watch magazine), “Klassik Uhren“ (Classic watches) as well as the “WatchTime” which is based in New York. Being an expert for mechanical wrist watches, he lectures and is a sought-after interview partner for various media.
