Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2016 gives exclusive tips for Melbourne

This year, the “Black Magic Industrial Design team led by Simon Kidd” from Australia is honoured as Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2016. The highest honorary title of the Red Dot Award: Product Design goes to Blackmagic, one of the globally most influential innovators and manufacturers of creative video technologies. In the Red Dot App, Simon Kidd, the company’s Director of Industrial Design, exclusively shows his favourite places in the second largest city of the Australian continent within the “Designers’ Hotspots” series.

Excellent product design from the trendy Australian metropolis

With its beautiful landscapes and coastlines, architecture, numerous cultural events and sports highlights, Melbourne is considered as one of the most liveable cities in the world. Perhaps it is also the cultural diversity, creativity and innovative power of the trendy metropolis which helped Blackmagic to become one of the world leaders in hardware and software products for film and television. Blackmagic’s driving philosophy is to foster true creativity by making highest quality video affordable. This idea is also reflected in Simon Kidd’s “Designers’ Hotspots” for Melbourne. Among Kidd’s favourites  are mainly publicly accessible places and institutions such as the “National Gallery of Victoria” or the “Australian Centre for the Moving Image”. Exhibition “Creative Video Revolution by Blackmagic Design”

After receiving the “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year” title, the Australian designers show their skills in the exhibition “Creative Video Revolution by Blackmagic Design” in the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen, Germany, from 5 July – 28 August 2016. Besides the awarded products photographs and videos are on show, documenting the usage of Blackmagic Design’s video technology. Both hardware and software of the designers are used in films, television programmes and advertisements worldwide. They were already deployed in Hollywood movies, such as “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “Furious 7” or “Avatar”.
