The Red Dot jury has been selected: Thomas Lockwood will enrich the expert panel once again

The registration phase of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018 is in full swing and the Red Dot jury, the heart of the competition, has already been selected. Dr. Thomas Lockwood, a thought leader at integrating design and innovation practice into business, will once again be part of the expert panel. With his expertise in design thinking, innovation and corporate creativity, he will decisively shape the decisions of the jury and contribute to the high quality standards and thus the value of the Red Dot seal.

Thomas Lockwood has a PhD in design management and specialises in integrating design and innovation practice into business. He has produced 22 conferences about design leadership, lectured and led workshops in over 20 countries, and is a founding partner of Lockwood Resource, an international recruiting firm dealing with design leadership recruiting. Furthermore, Lockwood is the author of the books “Design Thinking”, “Corporate Creativity” and “Building Design Strategy”.

His recent book “INNOVATION BY DESIGN: How Any Organization Can Leverage Design Thinking to Produce Change, Drive New Ideas, and Deliver Meaningful Solutions”, which he wrote together with the leadership psychologist Edgar Papke and which was published in November 2017, deals with the question of how to leverage the natural innovation within organisations, a process that is vital to their future success. The starting point of Lockwood’s and Papke’s work was the fact that although leaders see fostering innovation and the need for transformational change as their top priorities, they struggle with how to engage their cultures to implement the changes necessary to maximise their innovative targets. In order to offer readers a powerful set of insights and practical solutions to one of the most important challenges for today’s businesses – the need for relevant innovation, they conducted more than 70 interviews and an intensive research. In their book, they share the results of their study, including amongst others:

•    The 10 attributes leaders can use to create and develop effective cultures of innovation
•    How to use design thinking as a powerful method to drive employee creativity and innovation
•    How leaders can take the “Fifth Step of Design” and create their ideal culture

To see whether his insights and tips bear fruits, Thomas Lockwood will assess the entries of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2018 in Spring. According to the motto “In search of good design and innovation”, he will test and discuss the entered products together with his jury colleagues. Designers and manufacturers from all over the world still have until 9 February 2018 to register their works to the competition.
