Three at one stroke: Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents inspiring special exhibitions in July

From 5 July 2016, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen in Germany presents three special exhibitions at once at Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can experience the best products of the year in “Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016” (until 31 July), and can meet the creative video technology of the design team of the year in “Creative Video Revolution by Blackmagic Design” (until 28 August). Moreover, the exhibition “Formosa Forms – Contemporary Tradition in Taiwanese Design” (until 10 July) informs about the current design understanding in Taiwan.

“Design on Stage – Winners Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016”

With the exhibition “Design on Stage”, the Red Dot Design Museum Essen presents the winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2016 from 5 until 31 July. On view are more than 1,000 up-to-date products which were granted the coveted Red Dot seal for their good design by around 40 design experts. In the midst of inspiring industrial architecture, the products from all fields of everyday life demonstrate how designers and manufacturers contribute to the improvement of the quality of life with high value and innovative strength.

The largest winners‘ exhibition in area in Red Dot’s history will be presented in two locations at UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein. From lifestyle accessories to consumer electronics to household helpers: The most extensive selection of the international innovations will be on show in the museum itself. In the neighbouring location “Hall 8”, further award-winning designs are presented, among others bicycles and furniture.

“Creative Video Revolution by Blackmagic Design”

The honorary title “Red Dot: Design Team of the Year 2016” was granted to the Blackmagic Industrial Design Team led by Simon Kidd in recognition of highest design quality and a sustainable creation policy. With “Creative Video Revolution by Blackmagic Design”, the Australian designers present their know-how from 5 until 31 July 2016 in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, Germany.

The thinktank from Melbourne develops hardware and software products used in films and television programmes and advertisements, among others in successful movies such as “Avatar”. By uniting user-centred design and innovative engineering, the designers consistently create products which not only challenge, but revolutionise the market. The exhibition features a selection of products united not by a singular visual language, but by their inherent physical qualities. They grant insights into how design is integrated into every aspect of the product development process.

“Formosa Forms – Contemporary Tradition in Taiwanese Design”

From 5 until 10 July 2016, the exhibition “Formosa Forms – Contemporary Tradition in Taiwanese Design” gives an overview of design trends from Taiwan. It is presented by the Red Dot Design Museum in Hall 6 at Zollverein World Heritage Site in Essen, Germany. The exhibition, commissioned by the Taiwan Design Center, showcases a selection of products which received the Red Dot or Golden Pin Design Award.

The exhibits from various living environments highlight both the contrast and symbiosis of tradition and modernity and illustrate the design understanding of Taiwanese designers and manufacturers: In numerous products, timely interpretations of traditional elements as well as innovative techniques combined with established craftsmanship testify to the contemporary Taiwanese culture.
