omdr —

omdr is a Tokyo-based design company founded in 1998. The creative director is Osamu Misawa, who worked as an art director in New York for 10 years. Mamoru Takeuchi is the art director. The company develops corporate identities, visual identities, advertising, sales promotions, packages, and digital communications based on graphic design. The team thereby attaches great importance to methodology and the contextualisation of communications, creating not just images, but added value through narratives.

Red Dot: How would you define good communication design?
omdr: In terms of communication design, what we have to say must be conveyed in a strong, loud, correct and emotionally moving way.

What makes your work unique?
A little bit of a sensory gap.

What intention do you pursue with your award-winning work?
The film expresses the idea that studying design and art is not only about acquiring skills, but also about cultivating innovative thinking and action. Studying at the university is not only about a fun campus life, but also about learning new and innovative ways of thinking. That’s why the daily struggle of the students is shown.

Struggling, innovative and essential.

Which target group would you like to address with your award-winning work?
People who desire to renew the world through art and design movement.
