Abstract Inheritance
The pastoral poem is a genre of Chinese poetry which is characterised by images of nature and a peaceful spirit. This publication contains 24 pastoral poems by poets who lived more than a thousand years ago. The process of cultural inheritance is represented by three versions of each poem: a traditional Chinese version, which is printed on handmade bark paper with a retro-style font, a simplified Chinese version on rice paper with a specially designed font, and an English version on modern paper. The dwindling luxuriance of the pages effectively illustrates the point that something poetic may have been lost in translation.
