AL-Scan

The AL-Scan is an optical biometer that measures the axial length of the patient’s eye without touching the eye and automatically calculates the correct intraocular lens power. This information is vital for a lens implantation, a procedure whereby the lens of the eye is replaced, for instance when a patient has cataracts. An assist function within this biometer moreover offers special calculation functionality for toric lenses, which are required for successful astigmatism correction.

Statement by the Jury

The jury was pleased by the radiused housing of this biometer and by its joystick-like operation. This lends it the friendly character of a gaming PC and reduces any anxiety the patient may have.
