Alex Katz

This monograph offers an overview of the work of American painter Alex Katz. In contrast to the brightly coloured slipcase, the cover shows a chalk drawing made on kraft paper. Inside, each chapter is dominated by a select spot colour. For example, a fluorescent orange reflects the optical effect of Katz’s atypical harmonies. The hanging punctuation used in the typography, as well as the presentation of the picture panels, which seem to extend beyond the pages of the book, communicate the artist’s effort to extend figurative painting beyond the frame.
