Alfenzbrücke

A few metres before the confluence of the Alfenz and Ill rivers in the Montafon valley in Austria’s Vorarlberg, a new concrete bridge structure spans the tributary and grants safe passage. A supporting structure was not possible which is why the option chosen was a covered bridge with load-bearing capacity on the lateral sides. Modelled on bionic principles, irregularly placed, diagonal tension and pressure rods form the bridge house.
