ASUS Archimedes-The Mastermind of Comprehensive PC Assembly Experience
Connected Insight 1.0
This industry-pioneering concept – developed by Bergen Engines Rolls-Royce Power Systems in collaboration with TietoEVRY in Norway – leverages Edge Computing, a cloud-based Internet of Things (IoT) platform and Advanced Machine Learning (AML) to provide its users with unparalleled insight into their equipment. The system is able to capture data from multiple sensors and translate it into a single output that enables service technicians to quickly identify areas of interest and take proactive measures to address potential issues before they become a concern.
Whilst Connected Insight 1.0 alleviates several of the major pain-points for sea vessel operators, it also provides a solid foundation for future innovation, expansion to other types of equipment, as well as the continued enablement of remote equipment maintenance. Aboard large sea vessels, the use of a fixed engine maintenance schedule is considered an industry standard. However, this practice does not take into account how real-life utilisation of an engine may lead to its components needing replacement or maintenance earlier or later than scheduled.
Excessive strain or inefficient use of engines may cause components to become obsolete and risk of premature engine failure long before scheduled maintenance. Not only does this threaten the safety of those on-board, the service down-time would incur significant costs and productivity losses. On the other hand, highly effective use of the engine may lead to parts needing replacement earlier than expected. Connected Insight 1.0 emerged as a better way to monitor and avoid premature engine failures, reduce unwanted down-time, and optimise the utilisation of all engine components. Projections have indicated that, within 5 years, the concept has the potential to save more than 37 million (€) and reduce carbon emissions by the equivalent of more than 4,500 trips to remote locations.
