discovering hands 3D diagnostic app

Back Download

“discovering hands” closes a crucial gap in the field of breast cancer prevention with its tactile diagnosis and thus is a response to the 70,000 women who are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. Specially trained blind women examine patients according to a scientifically based method. To further support the tactile diagnosis, a software-based medical application was developed that allows the results of the tactile examination to be accurately documented and processed appropriately for the patient and further diagnosis. Thus, blind medical tactile examiners (MTEs) can digitally record the findings and visualise them in a 3D thoracic model and a 2D frontal view. The intuitive user interface also allows them to conveniently enter their tactile results in Braille. These are then recorded in a 3D grid and show the exact location of tissue changes. Similar to an X-ray image, the application provides precise information about the location of findings, providing ideal support for specialists in their diagnostic consultation with the patient.

Statement by the Jury

The “discovering hands” project impresses with its clever approach of combining the special tactile sensitivity of visually impaired women in detecting breast cancer with an AI-based user interface into which these women can directly enter their findings. This not only facilitates faster, easier and, in particular, more precise diagnostics – and thus saving human lives – the design also impresses with an aesthetic appeal that is both elegant and clear.
