Elas Candle Holder

Back Download

The design and development of candleholders is marked not only by functionality; traditionally, aesthetics and the material used to play key roles. The Elas candleholder surprises with both: a new material and a consistently implemented design idea. Elas interprets the familiar candleholder as a highly self-sufficient interior object that possesses a fascinating characteristic concerning the actual source of light – the candle: made of silicone, the candleholder is not limited to a particular candle size. Its opening adapts flexibly to any candle with a base diameter ranging from 2 to 2.5 centimetres, eliminating the need to cut candles to size. At the same time, this also solves the problem of candles tilting, as a special weight in the bottom of the foot stand guarantees that they are fixed in the opening and kept standing upright. This weight in the bottom also determines the language of form of these candleholders: with their curved shape they are reminiscent of everyday accessories popular in the 1950s and 1960s. The sensuously appealing shape of this candleholder is underlined by the use of silicone, a material that is heat-resistant and pleasing to the touch. The result of this kind of design is a highly organic object that matches interiors and allows for a wide range of individual arrangements. The candleholder can be arranged as a pair or in a stylish group.

Statement by the Jury

The material used for the Elas candleholder by manufacturer Royal VKB is just as unusual as the design approach followed. It is now no longer necessary for candles to be adapted and cut to size; instead it is the candleholder’s opening that adapts flexibly to candles of various diameters. This is facilitated by the use of silicone, a contemporary material that is highly heat-resistant and available in different colours. The necessary stability of Elas is achieved through the weight in the bottom of the holder.
